Often documents are provided with a title page or table of contents. When page numbers are added in OpenOffice (we show how to do this here), they usually start on page 1. In this case, on the title page. In the following article we will explain how you can solve this unsightly problem.

Start the page number from the desired page in OpenOffice

Follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the brief instructions .

1st step:

In order to be able to start page numbers from a certain page, you must first set up a new page format . To do this, open your document and press the [F11] key on your keyboard. A new window with the name " Format templates " opens . Select the fourth menu item " Page template " at the top . With a right click on " Standard ", another window opens. Click here on " New ... ".

2nd step:

image
The new " Page template " window opens . Enter a name of your choice here , as in our example " Page 3 ". Confirm your choice with " OK ".

3rd step:

Now insert a footer from the page where the page numbering should begin. To do this, click with the left mouse button at the beginning of the page that comes BEFORE the corresponding start page . Then click on " Insert "> " Manual break ... " in the menu bar at the top .

4th step:

In the new window " Insert break " click on the arrow next to " Template " and select the template you have created. Confirm your selection with " OK ". The first pages are kept in the standard format, while your own format applies from the next page.

5th step:

Click Insert > Footer, and choose your template here. So for us it is " Page 3 ". So the footer only appears from the third page.

6th step:

Left click on the footer . Then open " Insert "> " Field command "> " Other ... ".

7th step:

image
In the new Field Commands window, choose Page > Page Number > Arabic (1 2 3) . Enter a " -2 ", for example, into the " Correction " field below if the page count should start on page 3. In this way you set up the fact that the first two pages of the document are not included in the count. Adjust the value accordingly if you want your page counting to start from a different page. Confirm with " Insert ".

8th step:

As you can see, the inserted page number is only on page 3 and starts with a 1 .
