With the offline mode, you can use Google Docs without an active internet connection by saving the documents you have recently opened on your computer. To activate offline access, you need an existing internet connection and the Google Chrome browser.

Activate offline access

Before you can use Google Docs offline, you must first install an appropriate extension in the Chrome browser. Follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the brief instructions .

1st step:

Open Chrome and install the Google Docs Offline extension . Then enter chrome: // extensions in the search bar of the browser and activate the extension.

Log in to Google Docs ( https://www.google.de/intl/de/docs/about/ ) and click on the three-line menu (☰) in the top left. Select " Settings " from the menu .

3rd step:

Now activate the switch for " Offline ". Files that you recently used are now automatically saved on your computer so that you can edit them. If you do n't have an internet connection , simply download the docs.google.com page and open your documents. Are you back to the Internet connected , which are changes automatically synced .

Return to the Google Docs homepage and click the three-dot menu on the file you want to save .

You can see from the check mark on the left under a file whether it is available for offline access.

  1. Open Chrome and install the Google Docs Offline extension . Now go to the extensions by entering chrome: // extensions in the search bar of the browser and activate the extension you just downloaded.
  2. Sign in to Google Docs and open the burger menu (☰) . Select " Settings " from the menu .
  3. Then activate the switch for " Offline ".

  2. Now set the switch for " Available offline " to On .
  3. You can see whether a file is available offline by checking the tick on the left under a file .
