The official Corona warning app was developed and tested for weeks. Now the app is activated for use and available for voluntary download for iOS and Android. We explain briefly and succinctly how the initial setup of the Corona warning app works and how you activate the risk assessment.

Install the Corona warning app - this is how it works

First download the app from the Google Play Store on your Android smartphone or from the Apple Store for your iPhone. In order for the Corona app to work properly, the so-called risk determination must be activated in the setup process. Your smartphone then generates and sends encrypted random codes to other users in your area via Bluetooth and receives their codes at the same time. The app remembers encounters with other people via this random code exchange. If one of these encounters uploads a positive Covid-19 test to the Corona warning app, you will be informed immediately and can then decide for yourself whether and which measures to take. 1st step:

When you open it for the first time, the app explains the purpose and general function of the application. Tap " Let's go ".

2nd step:

After the data protection declaration you will be shown how the risk determination works. If you agree, tap on " Activate risk assessment ". Confirm all permissions the app needs to function properly. Bluetooth must also be activated on your device. You can of course deactivate the risk determination in the app at any time.

3rd step:

Read the information and tap Next .

4th step:

The app can automatically inform you about your risk status. If you would like to be warned when you have been close to an infected person, tap on " Next " and allow the authorization. Otherwise, select "Do not allow".

5th step:

If the app is newly installed or has not yet evaluated enough encounters with other users, you will receive the message " Unknown risk "on the start page. In order to calculate the risk of infection, the Corona Warning app needs a certain amount of data. The app is updated every 24 hours and recalculates your risk of infection. So use the app over a longer period of time, a corresponding risk is displayed. Of course, this value also depends on how many people actually use the app in everyday life. The gray box changes to green if the risk is low and to red if there is an increased risk - you that is, had contact with infected people. If you want to deactivate the risk determination again, go to " Risk determination active " above .

6th step:

Now deactivate the slider next to " Risk determination ". The Bluetooth connection to other app users is now switched off and you will no longer be notified of possible corona encounters.

Note : With several models from Xiaomi and Huawei, users on Android complain about bugs in the app. The reason for this is the manufacturer's activated energy-saving options. Navigate under the settings to energy saving options or app launches and remove the restrictions of the Corona warning app so that it can function properly. Then restart the smartphone to be on the safe side..

quick start Guide

1. Start the setup with " Let's go ".
2. After confirming the data protection declaration, continue with " Activate risk determination ". The Corona warning app requires authorizations, which are requested here. Allow this so that the corona tracking also works. Bluetooth must also be activated on your device. You can also revoke the app's authorizations later.
3. The app then informs you about the functions. To do this, tap on " Next " until you get to the general overview.
4. If you skipped the risk determination during the setup or if you would prefer to deactivate the risk determination again, tap on " Risk determination active " or " Risk determination " and operate the slider there.
