If you have forgotten your WLAN password but are still logged in with your PC, you can easily read out the security key. We will show you how you can display the WiFi password via the control panel and via the command prompt in Windows 10.

1st step:

Make a right click on the wireless icon "at the bottom right of the taskbar, and then from the popup menu to open the Network and Internet settings ".

2nd step:

Now select " WLAN " in the left column and click under " Related Settings " on " Network and Sharing Center ".

3rd step:

The active networks are now displayed. Select your WLAN to the right of "Connections" .

4th step:

A new window will open again in which you click on the " Wireless Properties " button.

If you switch to the " Security " tab at the top and check the box in front of "Show characters" , your WLAN security key will be displayed.

1st step:

Open the command prompt by typing cmd in the Windows search bar. Right click on it and select "Run as administrator ". Then enter your administrator data. As a rule, these correspond to your user data for the computer.

2nd step:

Enter the following command at the command prompt: netsh wlan show profile WLAN-NAME key = clear. Replace "WLAN-NAME" with the actual name of your WLAN . Then confirm your entry with [ Enter ].

3rd step:

A long list of information about your WiFi network will appear. You will find your WLAN security key in the "Security Settings" category .

  1. Right-click the WLAN symbol in the system tray at the bottom right and select " Open network and Internet settings ".
  2. Go to " WLAN " in the left column and click under " Related Settings " on " Network and Sharing Center ".
  3. Then open your WiFi network to the right of "Connections" .
  4. Now click on the " Wireless Properties " button .
  5. Switch to the " Security " tab at the top and tick " Show characters ". Your WiFi password will then be displayed.

Brief instructions: Read out the WLAN password via a command prompt
