Google's new payment service Google Pay is finally available in Germany. We explain what you need to know..
Many people may forget their wallet at home more often than they forget their smartphone. So it makes sense if you could simply pay with your mobile phone in the supermarket next door. Google enables you to do this with the payment service Google Pay, which has just appeared in Germany.
Google Pay works in a similar way to PayPal. First of all, you need to connect your account to the service. So far, only a few banks support the payment service, others will probably follow sooner or later. With the app you can then simply pay with your mobile phone in the supermarket or at the petrol station. As a rule, all you have to do is hold your smartphone up to a compatible EC card reader. Payment is then automatic. For amounts over € 25, you must also unlock your device. The money will be debited from your bank account or your credit card from Google. The merchant you buy from is paid by Google. The app has appropriate security standards and, in addition, your bank details are safe from the prying eyes of third parties. An additional plus:You can also pay online with Google Pay. So on your next online shopping trip, you should keep an eye out for shops that support the service. Google's new payment service could turn out to be a real PayPal alternative.
