The graphics card is the crucial hardware component when it comes to displaying new games in high resolution. In addition, the drivers of the graphics card should always be up to date. In the following article, we will explain two methods of how you can update the drivers of your graphics card.

Update graphics card via the device manager

The most convenient way to update the drivers under Windows 10 is through the integrated device manager. Follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the brief instructions .

1st step:

image
Open the device manager via the run dialog via [Windows] + [R]. Enter " devmgmt.msc " and then confirm with " OK ". Alternatively, you can use the search field in Windows 10 on the taskbar to search for "Device Manager" and then open the app.

2nd step:

Now expand the "Graphics card" category and right-click on your listed graphics card. In the menu select " Update Driver ".

3rd step:

Here you select " Search for drivers automatically ". If a new driver is available online, it will be automatically installed on Windows 10.

Update graphics card via the manufacturer's website

Alternatively, you can download the latest drivers directly from the manufacturer. The two graphics card manufacturers AMD and Nvidia offer a manual search for drivers on their websites. The procedure is identical. You need to know and search for the product type, series and family. Nevertheless, we will show you step-by-step what to do to ensure that the driver update works:

Nvidia

1st step:

image
First open the download page for NVIDIA drivers via nvidia.de . Here you select the product type, series, family, operating system and download type as well as the language. Suppose we own the "Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Super": The product type in this case is "GeForce", the series "GeForce RTX 20 Series" and the family "GeForce RTX 2080 Super". Our operating system is Windows 10 64-bit. Then click on " Search ".

2nd step:

The current driver is searched for automatically and displayed to you. Click Download Now, and then install the new drivers.

AMD

1st step:

image
Go to amd.com , scroll down to manual search and select your product from the list. Here, too, you first determine which type it is and then its series and family. In our example we choose AMD RADEON R7 M260X from the R7 200 Series. Then click on " Submit ".

2nd step:

Select the appropriate operating system by clicking on the plus symbol next to the operating system. We choose Windows 10 - 64-Bit Edition. Finally click on " Download " and install the new drivers.

Quick start guide: Device Manager

  1. Open the device manager via [Windows] + [R] and enter " devmgmt.msc " or use the Windows search.
  2. Under the category " Graphics card " right click on your graphics card and select " Update driver ".
  3. Via " Search for drivers automatically" the latest drivers are automatically obtained from the Internet and installed.
