If you have problems with the Google Play Store, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling it. We show how it's done..

The Google Play Store is essential for your apps and the security of your smartphone. If the Play Store cannot connect, shows server problems, or requires authentication, your apps will not be able to update and security holes in them will not be closed. In such a case, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the Play Store.

How to reinstall the Google Play Store

Follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the brief instructions .

1st step:

Open your settings and go to " Apps ".

Find the application for the Google Play Store in the list and tap on it.

There you can now press " Uninstall ". With newer Android versions , the Google Play Store can no longer be uninstalled for security reasons. Instead, just clear the cache . We'll explain that in the next step.

4th step:

Now you have to download the Google Play Store again from the Internet, e.g. at heise download: https://www.heise.de/download/product/google-play-apk-92066/download. Open and install the file. You should then be able to find the Play Store under your apps again. With newer smartphones you also delete the cache . To do this, select " Storage " and then press both " Clear data " and " Clear cache ".

  1. Open " Apps " in the settings.
  2. Go to the Google Play Store application.
  3. Choose " Uninstall ". This option is not available on newer smartphone models. You can clear the cache for this . How exactly is explained in the next step.
  4. In the Internet you now download a file for the Google Play Store and install it. e.g. at heise download: https://www.heise.de/download/product/google-play-apk-92066. To clear the cache on newer Android versions, go to " Storage " and then to " Clear data " and " Cache ".
