Transpose means that something is transferred or moved to another area. In Excel, transposing means that the content of a table is moved from a row to a column or vice versa. The function relieves you of having to laboriously copy each entry individually or with formulas. You can read how transposing works in the following article.

How to transpose a table in Excel

The transpose function has been permanently integrated since Excel 2013. Follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the brief instructions .

1st step:

Mark and copy the desired data cells including all row and column labels. Copying works with the key combination [Ctrl] + [C] .

Click the cell in which you want to place the transposed table. In our example we choose cell A7.

3rd step:

Now click on " Start " in the menu ribbon and then on " Insert ". Here you select the " Transpose " option . Excel then inserts the transposed data in the previously defined cell. The rows and columns are exchanged automatically.

quick start Guide

  1. Open your Excel spreadsheet and highlight all of the data including your row or column labels.
  2. Now press the key combination [Ctrl] + [C] to copy the contents.
  3. In Excel, specify the cell where you want the transposed table to be inserted. To do this, simply click on the desired cell.
  4. Go to " Start " and " Paste " via the menu .
  5. Finally, select the " Transpose " option . Excel automatically inserts the transposed table.
