You can change the name of your WLAN for more individuality. Joke names like "WITZ! Box" or "House LANister" are popular. Regardless of whether you want to name your WLAN professionally or in a funny way: You can change the name via the settings of your router. Here we explain it to you using a Fritz! Box as an example.

Rename WLAN

1st step:

Call up the fritz.box website in your browser and log in there.

In the menu on the left you will find the item " WLAN ". When you click on it, a submenu will appear. Select " Wireless Network " there. Below you will find the " Wireless Network Name " area. Here you can change the name of your WLAN next to " Name of the WLAN radio network (SSID) ". Finally you have to confirm the change with " Apply ".

Rename the entire network

The name of your WLAN will also change if you rename your entire network directly. Follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the brief instructions .

Open your Fritz! Box settings by entering " fritz.box " (without quotation marks) in the browser . Then type in your password and click " Sign In ".

Click on the left on the " Home Network " category and then on " FRITZ! Box Name ". Here you can specify a new name for your router and thus also for your WLAN in the " FRITZ! Box Name " field . With a click on " Apply ", your network and the WLAN will now run under the new name. These instructions run using a FritzBox as an example. The process might be a little different on other routers. You need to open the settings there as well. There could be a sub-item called " Change Name " or " Rename ". Alternatively, instead of " Change router name "is another, comparable expression. However, this refers to the same process.

Quick guide: Renaming the entire network

  1. Enter " fritz.box " in your browser to access the graphical user interface of your router. Log in with your password.
  2. Click on " Home Network " and then select " FRITZ! Box Name ". Here you can assign a new name for your network. You not only rename your router, but also the WiFi network.
  3. Click " Apply " to save the setting.

For devices from other manufacturers, you must also call up the settings. Then you have to go over the option " Change Name " / " Rename " or something similar. It is possible that the device name / router name or another expression is being used here. In terms of content, however, this is the same change.
