In this tipps + tricks guide we will show you how to insert protected spaces in LaTeX..
Compared to word processing programs such as Microsoft Word, LaTeX works a little differently with spaces. If you enter several spaces one after the other in the text, LaTeX interprets them as only one space. In the following, we will show you a few commands that you can use to force spaces in both the running text and the math environment.
LaTeX offers different possibilities to force a space in the running text as well as in the math environment. Here we list the commands with the corresponding explanation and then show you a compiled LaTeX document with the effects of all commands. Note: The size em used for LaTeX corresponds to the width of a square in printing. This is roughly the size of the capital letter M .
