Microsoft Word has a variety of special characters, including currency symbols, math symbols, and arrows. Some of them can be quickly inserted using keyboard shortcuts, while others are somewhat hidden. But with our guide you are sure to find it.

Tip : You can find keyboard shortcuts for inserting special characters on the official Microsoft support website . Scroll down to " Format Characters and Paragraphs " and click " Insert Special Characters ".

How to insert special characters in Word

1st step:

Switch to the " Insert " tab at the top and then click on " Symbol " on the far right. There you will already find some symbols that are frequently used. If the character you want to insert is not there, click on " More symbols ... ".

2nd step:

You can now choose from all the symbols available in Word. If you click on a character, you can insert it into your text with the " Insert " button . You can also see the keyboard shortcut for this character , if any . For € this would be, for example, [Alt] + [0128]. The digits must be entered on the numeric keypad on the right of the keyboard. If you don't have a number pad on your keyboard, you can use the " Key combination ... " button to change the key combination for the selected symbol.
