Would you like to mix landscape and portrait format in just one Word document? Then follow our step-by-step instructions..

Have you written a multi-page Word document in portrait format, but would like to have one or more pages in between in landscape format? It's not that difficult when you work with page breaks. In the following we will show you how to proceed:

How to mix portrait and landscape in your Word document

Follow our step-by-step instructions , the quick start guide or the explanatory video .

1st step:

Open your Word document and click at the very end of the page that you want the page to follow in landscape format .

2nd step:

Now open the page layout via the menu above and select " Next page " under " Breaks " . You have now inserted a page break and can change the format from the following page.

3rd step:

To do this, click on " Orientation " in the page layout settings and select " Landscape ".

4th step:

After that, all pages from the page break are in landscape format. In order for the remaining pages to be in portrait format again , you have to insert a page break again .

5th step:

To do this, click at the end of the last page that should remain in landscape format and select " Next page " again via " Breaks " .

6th step:

Then go to " Orientation " again and this time select " Portrait ".

7th step:

The following pages are now in portrait format again.

Note: When you make a page break, the cursor must always be on the last line of the page , which is already in the correct format!

1. Open your Word document and click where you want the page to be inserted in landscape format.
2. Now go to the menu item " Page Layout " and then to " Breaks ".
3. Under the menu item " Section breaks " select " Next page " by clicking on it. You have now inserted a page break and can change the format from the following page.
4. To do this, click on " Orientation " in the page layout settings and select " Landscape ". Now all pages from the inserted page break are in landscape format.
5. But if you only want one (or a few) pages in landscape format and then everything should be in portrait format again, you have to work with a page break again. Now click on the point after which the portrait format should apply again .
6. Then click " Breaks " again under " Page Layout " and then click " Next Page ".
7. After you have set the page break, go to " Orientation " again and this time select " Portrait ". Now the following pages are all in portrait format again.
