TeamSpeak is voice conferencing software and the pioneer of other platforms such as Discord. In parallel to online games, you can use the current TeamSpeak 3 to communicate with friends via speech and text. If you also want to install TeamSpeak 3 on Linux, you have to accept a slightly longer installation depending on the distribution. We will describe the installation process for two of the most popular Linux distros step-by-step so that you are guaranteed to benefit from TeamSpeak.

Installation of Teamspeak on Ubuntu and Debian-based systems

Note: All entries in the terminal are always carried out with [Enter] , which is why this step is not explicitly mentioned again for each individual step..

1st step:

In the first step you download the official client for TeamSpeak 3 from our heise download page: https://www.heise.de/download/product/teamspeak-54646/download. Please pay attention to the appropriate system architecture and click on "Download ". The download from the Teamspeak 3 client starts and is saved in the download directory. Tip: You can use the " uname -m " command in the terminal to find out whether your architecture is a 32- or 64-bit system - x86_64: The system runs on 64-bit; i386 / i486 / i586 / i686: The system runs under 32 bit.

The downloaded file must now be made executable. To do this, open a terminal, for example via [Alt] + [Ctrl] + [T] , and first navigate to the download folder with " cd ~ / Downloads / ".

Once there, make the file executable with the command " chmod u + x teamspeak3-Client-linux_ARCHITEKTUR-VERSION.run ". Replace ARCHITECTURE and VERSION with your appropriate values. In our instructions we use version 3.5.3 and a 64-bit system - so enter " chmod u + x teamspeak3-client-linux_amd64-3.5.3.run ". Note for Linux newbies: "chmod" changes the access rights of files and folders. In this case " chmod u + x " means that the owner (u) gets rights (+) to execute the file (x).

Now you can start the TeamSpeak 3 client with the following command: " ./teamspeak3-client-linux_ARCHITEKTUR-VERSION.run ". In our case again " ./teamspeak3-client-linux_amd64-3.5.4.run ".

In the next step, the TeamSpeak 3 client asks you to read the license. Installation of Teamspeak on Arch Linux

The installation is much easier under Arch Linux, since TeamSpeak3 is available as teamspeak3 in the community and is easy to install using Pacman. To do this, enter the following in the terminal:

pacman -S teamspeak3
