Instagram is primarily designed as a mobile application. You should actually upload content from your smartphone. But that doesn't work for everyone. You may want to edit your photos in a tool like Lightroom first. Or maybe you want to upload photos or videos that you didn't take with your smartphone camera. Or maybe you just don't like typing long captions on your smartphone and you'd rather use a real keyboard. You can also post from your computer using the Chrome and Vivaldi browsers.

Post to Instagram using Google Chrome

When you open the Instagram website in your computer's web browser, you will get a simplified version of the website. It allows you to do a few things, like commenting on photos, but it doesn't provide a way to post new ones. Some newer browsers, including Google Chrome, can display the Instagram website as if you were accessing it on a mobile device - and that also makes the function for creating new posts available. Follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the brief instructions .

1st step:

Open Instagram in Chrome and sign in to your account there. Then click on the three-dot menu in the upper right corner and then select " More tools " and " Developer tools " one after the other . Alternatively, you can also use the key combination [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [I] .

2nd step:

You will then see the Chrome developer window. This window allows developers to test and debug their websites and applications - but we'll be using it for Instagram.

3rd step:

Click the button above to switch to other devices .

4th step:

In the " Responsive " drop-down menu , you can now, if desired, switch the interface to one of the available devices.

5th step:

Load then the website again . This is important for the interface to be displayed correctly. You can then post your desired content from your computer with a click on the plus in Instagram.

6th step:

To change the view again, simply click the button above to switch the interface again.

The super-customizable Vivaldi web browser is the fastest, easiest way to upload photos from a PC or Mac to Instagram. It does this by running the mobile version of the Instagram website in a web panel. Follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the brief instructions ..

1st step:

If you have not already done so, install the Vivaldi browser: https://www.heise.de/download/product/vivaldi-95977. Then open Instagram in your browser and log in with your associated account. Then click on the plus symbol on the left side of the browser interface.

2nd step:

The URL is filled in automatically, so all you have to do is click the plus button once more .

3rd step:

The mobile version of Instagram now appears in a sidebar on the left side of the browser and remains there when browsing other websites. You can resize the sidebar until the mobile page fits comfortably. To upload to Instagram, now click the plus icon at the bottom of the website to select a photo from your PC.

4th step:

To close the web panel, simply right click on it and then select " Remove web panel ".

Quick start guide: Chrome

1. Open Instagram in Chrome and sign in there.

1. Install the Vivaldi browser: https://www.heise.de/download/product/vivaldi-95977.
2. Then open Instagram in the browser and log in.
3. Then click on the plus symbol on the left ("Add web panel").
4. The URL will be filled in automatically. So click the plus again .
5. The mobile version of Instagram will now appear in a sidebar on the left side of the browser. You can also surf other websites without them disappearing.
6. To post, click on the plus symbol in Instagram.
7. To close the web panel, simply right click on it and select " Remove web panel ".
