The comma is used as a decimal separator in Europe - but not in the US, UK, and Australia. Instead, a period is used here. If you edit an international table and want to replace all commas with periods there, you do not have to do this manually. How to replace the commas with periods in Excel, read below.

How to change the decimal point in Excel

Note : If you change this setting, it will affect all numbers in all workbooks that you open from then on until you change them again. You cannot change the setting for specific cells only.

1st step:

In Excel, click File in the upper left corner .

Now select the " Options " entry on the left .

3rd step:

Then switch to the " Advanced " category . Then remove the check mark on the right next to " Use separator from operating system ". Only then can you edit the text fields next to " Decimal separator " and " Thousands separator ". So enter the character you want to use in each of the edit boxes (so a period in this case) and click OK .

4th step:

The new separators are automatically inserted into any numbers in your workbook that use them.

  3. Then enter the desired character (ie a point) for " Decimal separator " and " Thousands separator" and click on " OK ".
