Quick guide: Set up a Twitter feed on a server

Would you like to integrate Twitter and Twitter posts on your Discord server? We'll show you how!

There are two ways you can link Twitter and Discord together. On one side, you can connect your Twitter account to your Discord account. On the other hand, you can create a webhook for a specific Twitter channel on your server. New tweets are automatically posted in the corresponding Discord channel.

Linking Twitter and Discord

When you connect your Discord account to your Twitter account, a link to your Twitter feed will always appear on your Discord profile. So, with one click, Discord contacts can see your tweets. Follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the brief instructions ..

1st step:

image
At the bottom of Discord, click the gear icon . This will open the settings.

2nd step:

image
Click on " Links " on the left . You will now be shown different platforms. Select the Twitter icon here .

3rd step:

image
You will now be redirected to a Twitter website. You may still need to sign in. Then click on " Authorize App " to add your Twitter account to Discord. There other users can also access your Twitter profile via your Discord profile.

Set up a Twitter feed on a server

You can have Twitter posts appear directly on a channel using a WebHook. For this, however, you usually need external software such as Zapier or Automate.io . In our case, we chose the free version of Zapier. Follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the brief instructions .

1st step:

image
Go to the Zapier website . Register and log in if necessary. Then click on " Make a Zap " in the upper left corner .

2nd step:

image
Now enter " Twitter " as the app under " 1. Trigger " . To do this, search for it in the search window and click on the corresponding icon.

3rd step:

image
Now you need to decide what kind of Twitter posts to share. You can choose to include your own posts via " My Tweet ", or display another user's posts using " User Tweet ".

4th step:

image
Now you have to link your own Twitter account - regardless of whether you want to display your own posts or those of someone else. When you are done, click " Continue ".

5th step:

image
In " Set up trigger " you can now enter the username whose posts are to be displayed. The username is usually given after " twitter.com ". In our example, the user is " heiseonline " and you would be able to find him via " twitter.com/heiseonline ". Then click on " Continue ".

6th step:

image
You can now carry out a test using " Test trigger ". Here it is checked whether the specified Twitter user is correctly linked and is allowed to access the selected posts.

7th step:

image
Now you need to choose where the twitter posts will be displayed. To do this, look for " Discord " under " App " and select the corresponding icon.

8th step:

image
The action you then set is that these tweets are to be output as messages in a Discord channel. The correct selection for this is " Send Channel Message " under " Action Event ".

9th step:

image
Now you need to log into Discord . Please select your server below . Then click on " Next ".

10th step:

image
Now you can define rights. You can remove the check mark for all rights, except for " Send messages ". Then select " Authorize ".

11th step:

image
Now you can make sure once again that the correct server is linked. Then select " Continue " to continue.

12th step:

image
In this step you can adjust all sorts of things. You have to select a channel (" Channel ") on your server in which the tweets will appear. With " Message Text " you determine how the messages are displayed. Open the " Insert Data " button . There you should select " 1. Text " so that the content of the tweets is posted directly to the Discord channel. In the " Message Text " you can then formulate a small text around it, such as " New tweet: ".

13th step:

image
If you have set everything to your satisfaction, you can carry out a test via " Test & Continue ". The last Twitter message of the selected user is then posted to the server channel you have selected. Alternatively, you can go directly to the next step via " Skip Test ". Finally, you need to activate the Twitter link using " Turn on Zap ". If you have not yet confirmed your Zapier email address, you must do so now. As soon as everything is ready, all new tweets from the selected user will be posted directly to your Discord channel.

Quick guide: Linking Twitter and Discord

  1. In Discord, click the gear icon at the bottom left to go to Settings.
  2. Now call up the point " Links ". Here you can now connect different accounts.
  3. Click the Twitter icon . A website will now open in the browser.
  4. Here you have to log in with your Twitter data and click on " Authorize app ". You have now successfully linked the two apps.

Quick guide: Set up a Twitter feed on a server

  1. Log on to Zapier on. If necessary, register beforehand.
  2. Then click on " Make a Zap " at Zapier and select " Twitter " as the " App ".
  3. For " Trigger Event " you can decide which Twitter posts you want to display. Your own Twitter feed is integrated via " My Tweet ". You must then have linked Discord and Twitter beforehand . Via " User Tweet " you can also integrate the Twitter feed of a specific other user. Then click on " Continue ".
  4. Now you have to log into Twitter . When asked whether you want to subscribe to Zapier messages, you can select " No " because this step is not necessary for the WebHook. You can continue with " Continue ".
  5. Via " Set up a trigger " you now have to define the username of the user whose tweets you want to post in the channel. As a rule, the username corresponds to the URL, i.e. what is behind " www.twitter.com " - for example " heiseonline ".
  6. You can then test the setup. Regardless of whether you want to show your own tweets or someone else's on your channel: The Twitter account must have posted at least one tweet recently.
  7. Under " 2. Action " you now have to define an app again. Here then select " Discord ".
  8. Enter " Send Channel Message " as the " Action Event " and click on " Continue ".
  9. Now you need to log in with your Discord account . Select the server into which you want to integrate Zapier and define the bot's permissions . For a Twitter WebHook, at least " Write messages " should be checked. Complete the process with " Authorize ". You may have to enter a captcha or something similar. Then it goes on via " Continue " in Zapier.
  10. Now you can set a few things. For example, what name the Zapier bot should have and in which channel it is active. Make sure to select the option " 1. User Tweet in Twitter " and then " 1.Text " for " Message Text " . Before or after you can leave a message, for example "User XY posted on Twitter:".
  11. " Continue " takes you to the next step. You can do a test here. After " Test & Continue ", " Turn on Zap " continues to complete the setup. Please note that you must have confirmed the e-mail address you have stored with Zapier in order to complete the setup. You have then successfully integrated a WebHook into your Discord channel. You can edit and delete this at any time via the Zapier website.
