You can use the NFC technology on your smartphone for contactless payments if you have installed the appropriate app. But you can also receive data or couple devices with each other. In this article, we will explain to you how to find the NFC function on an Android smartphone and how to switch it on or off.

Android: Activate the NFC function

The standard NFC (Near Field Communication) enables you to pay quickly and without contact. Similar to Bluetooth, you can also use it to connect devices to one another. To do this, you need an NFC-enabled smartphone. Cell phones with the Android operating system are NFC-capable from version 4.0 - if the manufacturer has installed the necessary NFC chip. You can switch this on and off.

On Android phones, you can access the NFC function via the settings. You can also add the function to the quick access bar so that you can switch it on and off directly. We show you both:

Swipe down from the top of your phone screen . The quick access bar appears. Repeat the swiping gesture to unfold the bar completely. This may have several pages that you can reach by swiping to the right or left.

If the NFC function is not yet in the bar, tap on the three dots in the top right corner and then on " Button arrangement ".

You can now arrange the symbols on the quick access bar as you like and add new ones. Press and hold the NFC symbol and drag it to the desired location in the bar. At the end, confirm with " OK ".

To switch the NFC function on, tap on the corresponding symbol in the quick access bar . The symbol turns blue. To switch the function off, simply tap the symbol again. This will then be grayed out.

  2. Then choose " NFC and Payment ".
  3. Tap the slider to activate the NFC function .

  1. Open the quick access bar by swiping down from the top of your phone screen . To fully unfold it, swipe again.
  2. The NFC function is not there? In the upper right, tap the three dots , then " Button arrangement ".
  3. To add the NFC function, press and hold the NFC icon and drag it to the desired location. Confirm with " OK ".
  4. Now tap on the NFC symbol in the quick access bar to activate the function . The symbol turns blue . To deactivate the function, tap the symbol again.
