With a cell phone and a bit of plastic, you can easily make a hologram. We explain exactly how in these instructions!

A three-dimensional hologram on your mobile phone sounds like science fiction at first, but it is very easy to make with just a few materials. In this article we will explain what you need for this and how it works exactly!

This turns your cell phone into a hologram projector

What you need for the hologram:

• a smartphone or tablet
• transparent, relatively stable plastic film (about 12 x 12 cm, for example from an old CD case)
• checkered paper
• clear tape
• a permanent pen
• scissors
• ruler

1st step

First you have to cut out four trapezoids from the plastic . So that the parts fit together well in the end, it is best to create a template beforehand with a ruler. Draw a trapezoid on the squared paper, as you can find in the sketch above.

2nd step

Transfer the template onto the plastic four times with the permanent marker. Place the trapezoids with the sloping sides directly next to one another, so you need less plastic.

3rd step

Cut out the four trapezoids.

4th step

Now glue the trapezoids together on the sloping sides with the transparent adhesive tape, so that a kind of funnel is created.

5th step

Finally, choose a suitable hologram video. You can find this on YouTube, for example, when you search for “ Handy Hologram Video ”. You can find an example here . Then find a dark place and set your cell phone to the highest brightness level. Start the video, place the funnel in the center of your phone's display and enjoy the hologram!
