To avoid embarrassment during an online meeting, you can blur or change your background..

Is there an embarrassing picture or poster on your wall? Or is it a little messy with you right now? It's understandable that you want to prevent colleagues or superiors from seeing something like this in an online meeting. Microsoft Teams offers a simple solution for this: you can simply blur your background or fade in an image.

Note : This function is only available in the desktop version, not in the smartphone app.

1st step:

While you are on a video call , click on the three dots in the menu bar . Then click on " Show background effects ".

2nd step:

You will then see a selection of different backgrounds on the right. You can use " Blur " to soften your background. Then you will continue to be seen clearly while the space behind you is blurred. You can of course also select one of the other backgrounds and use " Preview " to check how it will look in the video call. Your video transmission will stop during this time.

3rd step:

If you are satisfied with the selected background, click on the button " Apply and activate video ".

4th step:

The background is then activated and is visible to the other participants.

5th step:

To remove the background, go back to the " Background Settings" menu and then select the first option. Tip: In another post, we'll show you how to create your own background in Microsoft Teams .

1. During a video call, click the three dots in the menu bar and then select " Show Background Effects ".
2. On the right you will then see a selection of available backgrounds. Select a background you want and click " Preview ".
3. If you like the selected background, click " Apply and activate video ". The background is then activated and can be seen by others.
4. To remove the background again, simply open the " Background Settings" menu again and then select the first option.
