A silent SMS (also stealth ping or silent SMS) refers to an SMS that is not displayed on the screen of your mobile phone. There is also no acoustic signal triggered on the smartphone. Such notices are sent for surveillance by the investigative authorities. How to recognize the silent SMS anyway, read in this article.

Silent SMS - what is that anyway?

A silent SMS is used to monitor suspicious people via your device. To do this, the authorities send a silent SMS to the person's smartphone, but the person receives neither an acoustic signal nor a notification. The Federal Criminal Police Office, the Federal Police or the Office for the Protection of the Constitution can use this method to monitor the device, i.e. mobile phone or smartphone, and create a movement profile. As an Android user at least, there is good news. You can use the "SnoopSnitch" app to see whether such an SMS has been sent to your mobile phone.

Recognize silent SMS

The free SnoopSnitch app promises to recognize silent text messages on Android phones. However, not all smartphones are supported. A root and Qualcomm processor are also required. If you meet these conditions, the app can recognize silent SMS for you.

Only the following steps are necessary:

  1. Download the SnoopSnitch app from the Google Play Store .
  2. Grant the app root privileges.
  3. From now on, SnoopSnitch will notify you if you have received a silent SMS. No further settings need to be made.
