A boot stick or a boot hard drive is an external storage medium. You copy your Windows operating system to it, but not your data. So you can restore Windows later - even if your damaged Windows no longer displays a user interface. How to restore Windows can be found here. You can also use a boot stick to install Windows on other computers. This is especially useful if you have a laptop that does not have a disc drive.
