Especially under Windows 7 and 8 there can be a certain problem with Windows Update. In this case, all services seem to be working optimally, but an update is still not possible. Often times, restarting your system doesn't help either. But don't worry: we'll show you how to get Windows working again.

How did this error come about?

Most of the time, Windows Update cannot search for updates if you recently restored a system backup. As a rule, the update service is set to "Activated" and everything else is fine with Windows. Ultimately, the problem lies in the fact that Windows thinks that the update program is still started when it is restored, but it is actually inactive. Therefore restarting your computer does not help. The solution is very simple: you have to start the update program yourself. After that, the message should disappear and updates should be able to be downloaded as usual..

Reset Windows Update

1st step:

Open your start menu and search for " cmd ". Right- click the Command Prompt result and choose Select as Administrator . You may have to confirm this again with your administrator data. As a rule, these correspond to the login data for your computer.

2nd step:

Now enter the following lines, each separated by pressing the [Enter] key: net stop wuauserv rd / s / q% windir% \ SoftwareDistribution net start wuauserv Then close the command prompt and restart Windows. Windows Update should now work normally again. You can find more information about the Windows update service on the official Microsoft help website.
