The field functions of Word are very diverse: There are, for example, automatically generated tables of figures or tables of contents, headers and footers or cross-references. However, especially with extensive Word documents, it is tedious to update each field individually after making changes. Therefore, in this article you will learn how to update all fields in a document at the same time.

Word: Update all fields at once

To update all fields in your document at once, first press the key combination [Ctrl] + [A] . This will highlight the entire document. Then press the [F9] key . Now all fields will be updated automatically. For some fields dialog windows may open in which you have to select whether you want to update only the page numbers or the entire directory. After each selection, press " OK ".

With [Ctrl] + [A] you mark everything, with [F9] you update the fields.
