The file extension .7z is rather unusual. Don't worry, it's simply a format for compressing folders. You may already be familiar with a comparable file extension: ZIP. A ZIP format file is also compressed and can be opened by most popular compression programs. These include, for example, WinRAR, WinZip and 7-Zip. And the latter program is also responsible for .7z files.
7-Zip isn't built into Windows, so you'll need to download it separately. Windows has its own compression tool, but it can only open ZIP and not 7z files. Once installed, just right click on your file. In the context menu you then have to select " 7-Zip " and then " Extract here " or " Extract files ... ".
