An additional WLAN in your own network only for guests? A so-called WLAN guest access protects your devices in the home network from being accessed by third parties. With the help of your Fritzbox, you can set up an additional wireless network with a new SSID to give your guest extra access to the Internet. You can find out how this works in this article.

Set up guest WLAN on the Fritzbox - this is how it works

Before you start, you should first decide whether the wireless guest access should be private or public. The private WLAN guest access is suitable for friends and acquaintances who should be able to securely access the Internet at home without being able to access devices in the home network. We therefore also recommend this encrypted method with a password. Follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the quick start guide .

1st step:

Open the user interface of your Fritzbox in the browser of your choice - enter fritz.box or 192.168.178.1 in the address bar. Enter your Fritzbox password and click on " Login ".

2nd step:

On the left-hand side in the menu, first click on " WLAN " and then on " Guest Access ".

3rd step:

In order to be able to set up the access, first activate the box next to " Guest access active ". Make sure that " private wireless guest access " is also selected. Otherwise even unauthorized persons can access your network without a password.

4th step:

Enter a name for " Name of the WLAN guest access (SSID)" that should be displayed to your guests. Then select the desired encryption method under " Encryption " and set the WLAN network key . Use a strong password for the WiFi.

5th step:

Click on " Apply " below to confirm . The router begins to set up the guest access.

You can now share the WiFi connection with your guests via SSID and password. Otherwise, your visitors can also access the internet directly via a QR code. To do this, click on " Show QR code ". Your guests can simply scan the QR code displayed there using your camera app and then automatically connect to the WLAN.
