The rumors that had been circulating for several weeks seem to be confirmed. The latest MacBooks equipped with the M1 chip are capable of running any iOS application. But be careful, launching an iPhone application on your Mac requires a little manipulation. Here's how to do it..

The M1 chip equips the new MacBooks

Apple has been selling its new computers with in-house processors using the ARM architecture (M1 Apple Silicon) for several months. This change is particularly beneficial for MacBooks.

The internally developed Apple chips are much better than the Intel chips that previously equipped Apple brand computers. The latter are illustrated by high performance while consuming less energy. The scores obtained on the various benchmarks are also quite simply astounding..

The very high level performances of the new MacBook M1s should not make us forget the work carried out by Apple on the macOS interface. The latter looks more and more like that of Apple's mobile products (iPhone and iPad).

The line between the two mobile operating systems is becoming increasingly blurred. The new Macs are also capable of running iOS applications without an emulator (Xcode). For the user, this change offers new perspectives. For information here is how to recover an application deleted by mistake on the iPhone..

How to launch an iOS app on a Mac

The processors equipping the new MacBooks are based on an architecture similar to the chipsets equipping iOS devices. It is therefore now possible to natively launch programs designed for the iPhone or iPad on a Mac.

The vast majority of applications available for the iPhone can be found on the App Store for macOS. However, the developers have made some changes such as removing the touch keyboard when entering text.

  • Open the App Store
  • Choose a topic and browse the list of apps
  • You can also type in the search module the name of the application to install
  • Click on the name of the application
  • Press the get button to start downloading the app. If the latter is chargeable, you will have to click on the price then on the button buy app

By doing some research you will quickly realize that some applications (and not the least) are completely missing from the App Store library. This is the case for example with YouTube, Netflix, Facebook, Spotify, Gmail, Instagram, Slack and many others.

There is, however, a trick to getting these pending apps to work from a Mac with an M1 chip. To do this, you will need to recover the application files with the IPA extension. But be careful, these files must be associated with your Apple ID. It will therefore be necessary to recover them directly on your iPhone or iPad.

  • Download and install iMazing iPhone management software on your Mac
  • Connect your iPhone to your computer and launch the iMazing software
  • Click on the applications section
  • Choose from the list the apps to install on your Mac
  • Select the option manage applications in the tab at the bottom of the window
  • Then click on libraries in the application management screen
  • Download the desired applications
  • Right click on one of the apps using your mouse then select the export IPA option
  • Double click on the IPA file to start installing the iOS app on your Mac

The applications will then launch in a window suitable for iPhone or iPad format. It is therefore impossible to resize it or put it in full screen. Another problem is that this trick may work for a limited time. Apple exercises strict control over the distribution of applications.
