There may be times when you need access to hidden folders with some Windows applications. If you want to access these files and folders, you must first make them visible. In this tipps + tricks article, we'll show you how this works under Windows 8, Windows 7 or Windows XP.

Show hidden folders from Windows 8

  • Open the Explorer by pressing [Windows] + [E] or simply go to the small folder icon in the lower left corner of the taskbar.
  • Now navigate to the appropriate storage location where the hidden folders / files are created.
  • Then click the View tab at the top . Under the " Show / hide " category there is the " Hidden elements " option . If you check this point, all hidden folders, files and drives will be displayed .

  • Open the Explorer by either clicking on " Start " (the Windows symbol) in the lower right corner or by clicking the folder symbol in the system tray.
  • Now you have to go to the corresponding directory in which the hidden folders / files are created.
  • Now click on the " Organize " option at the top right , a menu should open up. Then go to " Folder and Search Options ".
  • In the new " Folder Options " window , you must now select the " View " tab and then look for " Hidden files and folders " under " Advanced Settings " .
  • There you activate the second entry " Show hidden files, folders and drives " by clicking on it .
  • Finally, all you have to do is click on " Apply " and " Ok " below to save your settings. You should then be able to see all of the hidden folders, files and drives.

  • Open the Explorer by clicking on " Start " in the lower right corner and then going to " My Computer ".
  • There you have to navigate to the corresponding directory in which the hidden folders / files are created.
  • Then click on top of " Tools " and then " Folder Options ."
  • A new " Folder Options " window will now open . Go to the " View " tab and look for the item " Hidden files and folders ".
  • Here you activate the top item " Show all files and folders ".
  • Finally, all you have to do is click on " Apply " and " Ok " below to save your settings. You should now be able to see all of the hidden folders, files, and drives.
