1st step:

Before formatting your USB stick, you should definitely save all the data stored on it that you still need to a different location. This is because all data will be lost during the formatting process. Then open the Spotlight search using the small magnifying glass in the upper right corner and enter " Disk Utility " in the search field. Confirm your entry with [ Enter ] to open the hard disk utility.

2nd step:

Now open your USB stick in the hard disk utility by clicking on the corresponding name in the column on the left. Then go to the point " Delete " at the top .

3rd step:

A new window will now open in which you can change the name and format of your USB stick. If during the formatting process it is particularly important to delete the files stored on the stick, you should then click on the " Security options ... " button.

4th step:

In the security options, you can specify how secure the data deletion process should be . If you want to avoid that anyone can restore your data with a special program, you should choose the highest level of security. If you only want to empty the stick for your own use or give it a new format, a lower security level is sufficient. Confirm your selection with " OK ".

5th step:

When you have made all the settings, click on " Delete " and your USB stick will be formatted accordingly.
