Perhaps you have already looked for a "log out" button in the Facebook Messenger app, but found nothing. This is because there is no logout function in the app itself. In order to still be able to log out of Facebook's messaging service, you have to take a detour via the Facebook app. However, it is also possible to set the profile in Messenger to inactive. We show you both options:

How to log out of Facebook Messenger

As mentioned briefly above, the logout process does not run directly via the Messenger app, but via the Facebook app. Take a look at our step-by-step instructions or our quick start guide .

1st step:

Open the Facebook app and tap the menu symbol (☰) in the top right corner . On the iPhone, the menu is located in the lower right corner of the app. Swipe down a little until you get to " Settings and privacy " and tap on it.

2nd step:

3rd step:

There is a list of devices with which you are logged into Facebook. Tap on " Show more ".

5th step:

Now look for the device you are logged into Facebook with. The word " Messenger " must also appear under this . Then tap the three vertical dots on the right and select " Sign Out ". The device now disappears from the list and you are logged out of Messenger.

If you just don't want to appear " online " in Messenger, you can set your activity status to " inactive " as an alternative to logging out . Take a look at our step-by-step instructions or our quick start guide ..

1st step:

Open the Facebook Messenger app and tap your profile picture in the top right corner (on the iPhone, your profile picture is in the top left corner). This will take you to the settings .

3rd step:
