If your Mac or MacBook is connected to the Internet via a cable, you can easily set up a Wi-Fi hotspot, which you can then use to access the Internet with other devices. Just follow our step-by-step instructions.

Set up a WiFi hotspot on the Mac

1st step:

Open the system settings of your Mac via the apple symbol in the top left or via the gear app in the dock.

Select " Shares " in the system settings .

On the right-hand side, select the option " Ethernet " next to " Share connection ". Then check the box in front of " WLAN " and then click on " WLAN Options ".

In the WLAN options, first select the " Personal WPA2 " option next to " Security " and then enter a secure password twice . You can use this password to log into the hotspot WiFi later. If you want, you can also define a new network name here . Then confirm your entries with " OK ".

Now click on the left-hand side in the box in front of " Internet Sharing " and confirm the warning with " Start ".

You can then find the hotspot using the network name you specified and log into the WLAN with the password you entered previously. You can tell from the symbol marked above that the hotspot is active.

quick start Guide

  1. Open the system settings via the apple symbol in the top left or the gear app.
  2. Then select " Shares ".
  3. Next to " Share connection " select the option " Ethernet ".
  4. Then mark " WLAN " with a tick in the box at the bottom right and open " WLAN options ".
  5. Next to " Security " select the option " Personal WPA2 " and assign a secure password. You can use this password to log into the hotspot's WiFi later. If you want, you can also define a new network name here . Confirm your details with " OK ".
  6. Now check the box next to " Internet Sharing" on the left . When asked if you really want to turn on Internet Sharing, click Start . You can now log into the WLAN with other devices using the network name and password you specified.
