A forgotten restriction code on the iPhone can be easily read out using a tool. You can find out how to do this here..

The iOS device restriction code is a code of its own that is used for parental control or reducing screen time. This is determined by you and is not identical to your device or SIM code. Due to the number of different codes, it can quickly happen that you forget this. With a little work and simple software, you can easily read the forgotten code from a backup. Pinfinder is a small program for Mac, Windows and Linux that tries to restore the forgotten restriction code for the iOS device (iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch) from an iTunes backup of the device on your computer. Before following our step-by-step guide or our quick start guide , make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed.

1st step:

First create a backup of the device via iTunes. You can read what you have to do step-by-step for this in our corresponding guide on iPhone backup . The important thing is that for iOS 12 and newer you need to create an encrypted backup for the tool to work properly. This is not necessary for older versions. To do this, simply select " Encrypt local backup " in the corresponding step . If you haven't already done so, set up a backup password. You will need this again in step 4. Click " Back up now ".

2nd step:

After the backup has been created, download the free open source program pinfinder directly from github.com . Download the appropriate version for your operating system . We choose the 64-bit version for Windows.

3rd step:

Now navigate on your computer to the folder in which you saved Pinfinder. Usually downloads also end up in the download folder. Then unzip the .zip file and run the application. In Windows this is " pinfinder.exe ".

4th step:

The program will automatically scan your PC or Mac for backups. At the " Enter iTunes Encryption Password: " prompt, enter your backup password and press [Enter] .

5th step:

The process can now take a few minutes, depending on the size of the backup. If successful, the tool will give you the correct restriction code under " Restriction Passcode " . You can now deactivate the child lock or enter the correct code when asked.

1. Make a backup through iTunes. From iOS12 select " Encrypt local backup ". Then click on " Create backup now ".
2. Download the free pinfinder tool from github.com in the correct version for your operating system.
3. Unzip the downloaded .zip file and run the application.
4. At the " Enter iTunes Encryption Password: " prompt, enter your backup password and press [Enter] .
5. Wait a few minutes and the correct restriction code will be shown to you in the tool.
