Would you like to enable or disable the Windows key? Here we explain how it's done..

It happens quite often that you accidentally press a key. Most of the time, that's not that bad, but if you hit the Windows key, the Windows 10 start menu will open right away. That can be quite annoying. Therefore the key can be deactivated. And just in case your button is already deactivated, we also explain how to reactivate it.

1st step:

Press the key combination [Windows] + [R] and enter " regedit " in the new window . Then press [Enter] .

2nd step:

Now navigate to the path " HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ System \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Keyboard Layout " and right-click in the window on the right. Then select the entries " New " and " Binary value ".

3rd step:

Now call the new binary value " Scancode Map ". Make a double it.

4th step:

Now enter the following under " Value ": 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 03 00 00 00 00 00 5B E0 00 00 5C E0 00 00 00 00 . Then confirm your entry with " OK ". After restarting , the Windows key should no longer function.

Activate Windows key

1st step:

Since you can no longer open the Run dialog with the key combination [Windows] + [R] , enter " regedit " in the Windows search bar . Then click on " Registry Editor ".

2nd step:

Now navigate to the path " HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ System \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Keyboard Layout " and click with the right mouse button on the entry " Scancode Map ". Then select " Delete ". Then do a reboot and the button should work again.

1. Simultaneously press the [Windows] + [R] keys , enter regedit and press [Enter] .
2. Open " HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ System \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Keyboard Layout ", right click in the right window and select " New " and " Binary Value ".
3. Name the value " Scancode Map " and double click on it. Under Value enter 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 03 00 00 00 00 00 5B E0 00 00 5C E0 00 00 00 00 and confirm with "OK". Then perform a restart .
