Drop-down lists can help simplify many things and make tables in Google Sheets clearer. It's easy to create a cell with a drop-down menu. To do this, simply open your Google spreadsheet and follow our instructions.

1st step:

Right-click the cell that you want to make a drop-down menu. Select " Data Validation " here.

Next to the item " Criteria: " go to the selected option " List from a range " and change the item to " Item list ".

Then enter the individual elements of your drop-down list in the adjacent text box . The elements must be separated by a comma without spaces. When done, click " Save ".

You can now tell from the small arrow that your cell has been formatted as a drop-down menu. If you now click in the cell, you can select one of the previously entered elements.

quick start Guide

  1. Right-click the cell in which you want to insert the drop-down list.
  2. Select the lowest point " Data validation " here.
  3. Now click under " Criteria: " on " List from a range " to change the criterion to " Element list ".
  4. Then enter the points that should be available for selection in the drop-down list in the area behind it. The individual elements are separated by a comma (no spaces).
  5. By clicking " Save " you have successfully changed this cell to a drop-down menu. This is also confirmed by the small arrow that can now be seen in the cell on the right. The element is now selected by clicking on the cell.
