PDF files are arguably one of the most widely used document formats for sharing and viewing content. As a result, virtually all PDF readers and browsers have a primary search function that you can use to search the content for specific words or phrases.

How to search with a PDF reader

1st step:

You can use any PDF reader to browse a PDF, the way it works is similar. In this example we have chosen the Acrobat Reader DC from Adobe. Open the reader and click on " File " at the top left and then select " Open ... ". You can also use the key combination [Ctrl] + [O] instead. Then find your file and open it.

2nd step:

After the PDF has opened in the Reader, click on the magnifying glass at the top to open the search box. You can also use [Ctrl] + [F] . Then just enter the word you are looking for in the search field. With "Back" and "Next" you can jump to the corresponding occurrences if the word is mentioned more than once.

How to search a PDF file with a browser

Any browser can be used to search PDF files and the process is universal. We demonstrate the process in our example with the Chrome browser . Open the browser and drag the desired file from Windows Explorer to the browser window to open it .

Now use the key combination [Ctrl] + [F] to open the search field . Then just enter the word you want to search for. Use the arrows on the right in the search field to jump to the corresponding occurrences if the word is mentioned more than once.
