Did you know you can make your iPhone work for you? It's easy to do by setting up shortcuts..

With the release of iOS 12, Apple launched a new app called "Shortcuts". Shortcuts are a collection of custom automatic commands that are either displayed based on frequently performed actions or you can create your own. The Shortcuts app simplifies complex tasks on your iPhone in a single automatic action that would otherwise require a multitude of steps.

Add and edit shortcuts

The shortcuts app already includes various shortcuts. You can easily add these to your library and then customize them. Follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the brief instructions .

1st step:

image
Open the shortcuts app on your iPhone and tap the " Gallery " button in the lower right corner . Here you can find all the ready-made shortcuts. Do some browsing around here, and be sure to drop by the " Basics " section, as this category has some of the most useful shortcuts out there.

2nd step:

image
Once you find a shortcut you like, tap it, then choose Add Shortcut .

3rd step:

image
You may still have to configure the shortcut , depending on the actions you want it to perform. You will then find it in " My Shortcuts " at the bottom left.

4th step:

image
There you then tap on the three-dot menu of the shortcut you want to edit.

5th step:

image
Here you then have the option of changing the sequence of the shortcuts or even removing actions completely. In the upper right, tap the three-dot menu to edit the shortcut further.

6th step:

image
Here you can change the name and the icon of the command, among other things . You can also add your shortcuts to the home screen here for quick access. Of course, like any other app, you can remove it from your home screen. Then tap Done .

Create your own shortcuts

If you haven't found a suitable shortcut, you can also create a shortcut yourself for your own personal needs. Follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the brief instructions ..

1st step:

image
Open the shortcuts app on your iPhone and switch to the " My shortcuts " category in the lower left corner . Then tap on the button " Create shortcut ".

2nd step:

image
You can now edit your new shortcut. If you tap on the three-point menu in the top right , you can give the shortcut a suitable name and even create your own icon . With " Add Action " you can choose the actions that the shortcut should take.

3rd step:

image
Here you can choose between different options - whether you want to search for an action for a specific app or even select a script. It's best to take a look around here, as each app has its own actions and there are really many options. If you are looking for a specific action, you can also enter a suitable keyword in the search field above.

4th step:

image
You will then see all the available actions that you can add to your shortcut. For illustrative purposes, we have opted for an action from the "Maps" app. Simply select an action you want and then add it .

5th step:

image
You may then have to adjust your action . In our example, the means of transport and the destination still have to be specified. These entries can of course be very different - depending on which action you have added to your shortcut. You can then add further actions with the blue plus . When you are finished with your command, tap on " Done " in the upper right corner .

6th step:

image
You will then find the shortcut you just created under " My Shortcuts ".

Execute shortcuts

Once you've added a shortcut you want, it's easy to execute. Follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the brief instructions .

1st step:

image
If you have previously added the command to the home screen , you will find the corresponding icon there. Then all you have to do is tap on it to run the shortcut.

2nd step:

However, if you don't want the command on your home screen, you can also run it from the widget . To do this, swipe to the right on your iPhone's home screen until you can't go any further to open the " Today " screen . Then tap on the " Edit " button at the bottom .

3rd step:

image
Then look for " Shortcuts " in the list of available widgets and tap the green plus to the left of it to add the corresponding shortcut. Then tap Done .
