Hyphenation is particularly useful when you justify your document, as it prevents the words from stretching out unattractively. In OpenOffice you can either split syllables manually or activate automatic hyphenation.

Manual hyphenation in OpenOffice

With the manual hyphenation in OpenOffice, you can select specific words or passages of text to be hyphenated. Follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the brief instructions .

1st step:

Open your document in OpenOffice and highlight the part of text or the word you want to split. Then open the " Extras " category at the top and select " Language " and then " Hyphenation ... ".

In the new window you will then see various hyphenation options for individual words. You can confirm this with " Disconnect " and skip with " Next ".
