Windows Defender is normally activated automatically. This detects viruses and malware and prevents their installation and execution so that your computer is protected. However, it can happen that it deactivates - for example, if you have installed another antivirus program on your computer in the meantime. In this case, you have to reactivate Windows Defender manually. We'll explain very simply how this works on Windows 10.

Click on " Windows Security " in the menu bar and then select " Virus & threat protection ". It may be the case that in older Windows 10 versions you first have to open the " Windows Defender Security Center " before this step . If this is open, click on " Virus & threat protection ", then on " Virus & threat protection settings ".

Scroll down to " settings for virus and threat protection " and click on " Activate ". Windows Defender is then activated again and your PC is secured. Alternatively, you can select the "Manage settings" option under "Virus & threat protection settings". Then switch the real-time protection setting from " Off " to " On ".

Note: If you install other antivirus software on your computer, Windows Defender will be deactivated automatically.
