Can I change my name on Steam?

Unfortunately, this question cannot be answered directly, because the "Steam name" means two different things: On the one hand, there is the account name with which you log in. There is also the display name, the so-called " profile name ". This is the name under which you can be seen in games or in the friends list. You must specify the account name of your Steam account when you created it. This cannot be changed afterwards. You can change the profile name as often as you like. It helps to avoid confusion that other users can also see your former profile names on your profile or in the friends list - if you want that.

1st step:

Once you've opened the Steam desktop client, you'll need to click on the ad with your name in the top right corner . A drop-down menu will appear. Click there on " Show my profile ".

2nd step:

You are now on your own Steam profile page. Select " Edit profile " here.

3rd step:

The top field in the profile settings is labeled " Profile name ". What you now enter into this field will be shown publicly as the name of your Steam profile.
