There are several ways you can change your desktop background on macOS. Either you make the change in the system settings or you can use any image directly as a background. In the following we explain both variants to you:

Follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the brief instructions .

1st step:

Go to the docking bar at the bottom and click on " System Preferences ".

A new window will now open in which you go to " Desktop & Screensaver " in the top line .

Apple offers you pre-installed desktop backgrounds .

You can also insert a plain background .

However, you can also use your own image as a background image. You can access your saved files via the " Pictures " folder . You can also add other folders using the " + " symbol at the bottom left.

Select the folder in which the desired photo is saved.

Then click on the picture that you want to set as the new desktop background .

Now you still have the option to adjust the background image . To do this, click on the selection field above and choose between the options . You do not have to save the new background image afterwards. Just close the window.

Alternatively, if you don't want to use a pre-installed desktop background, you can set any image as your wallpaper with just a few clicks:

Right click on the saved image and click on "Set as desktop background".

If you want to use an image from the Internet as your desktop background, simply right-click the image . You can then select "Set as background image ... ".

A small window opens with a preview image. Click on " Set Background Image ". You now have a new desktop background.

  1. Go to the docking bar at the bottom and click on " System Preferences ".
  2. A new window will now open in which you go to " Desktop & Screensaver " in the top line .
  3. Your current background image will be displayed there. If you click on " Background Images" on the left , you can choose a pre-installed desktop background from Apple. Single-colored backgrounds are available under " Monochrome ".
  4. However, you can also use your own image as a background image . To do this, double-click on the "Pictures" folder in the left column or add any folder on your computer by clicking on the "+" sign. Then double-click on it.
  5. A new window will open. There, select the folder in which you have saved the relevant image or photo.
  6. Then click on the picture that you want to set as the new desktop background.
  7. Now you still have the option to adjust the background image . To do this, click on the selection field above and choose between the options.
  8. You do not have to save the new background image afterwards. Just close the window.
