You filmed a video on your cell phone, but it accidentally stands upside down when you open it on your computer? This is because the smartphone's motion sensor or camera app does not always work correctly. The popular alternative to Windows Media Player, VLC Media Player, gives you a feature to fix this error. If you then want to save the rotated film in VLC, a few additional steps are necessary. In the following article, we will show you how to rotate your video just for the preview and how to save it.

Follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the brief instructions .

1st step:

Open the VLC media player on your computer. Load the relevant video into the player using drag'n'drop. Then click on " Tools " in the menu bar and then on " Effects and Filters ". Alternatively, you can also press the key combination [Ctrl] + [E] .

2nd step:

In the newly opened window switch to the " Video Effects " tab and select " Geometry ". Then select the option " Transform " with a tick and specify by how many degrees the video should be rotated.

3rd step:

If you would like to rotate the video freehand and not use the specified 90 degree increments, you can tick " Rotate " and set the desired angle on the turntable . Confirm the set rotation by clicking on " Close ".
Note: VLC will apply this setting to any videos that are subsequently opened. So make sure to deactivate this option again for subsequent films. To do this, remove the checkmarks that you previously set for "Effects and Filters" / "Video Effects".
