OpenOffice has set up countless different format templates as a standard. But what are these actually used for? The most popular templates are probably the headings. If you want to create a table of contents in your OpenOffice document, they are indispensable. You can also create the rest of the formatting of the document using format templates instead of manually clicking on them again and again. This saves time and nerves! We show you how it works:

Use standard format templates

In the following step-by-step guide , we explain where you can find the format templates in OpenOffice and how you can use them . You can also have a look at our short guide :

1st step:

Open OpenOffice and click on the style sheet symbol in the tab on the left . Alternatively, you can also open the templates with [ F11 ].

2nd step:

At the top of the tab you can choose between different categories of format templates. The format templates provided by OpenOffice are divided into:

Paragraph templates
affect an entire paragraph, such as. Headings, tables or footers
Drawing templates Text blocks within a paragraph are formatted here. Examples are page numbers, definitions or quotations
Frame templates concern frames and graphics
Page templates format pages in terms of size, margins and type (e.g. right or left side)
List templates concern lists and numbering

Create your own style sheets

Can't find the right template or would you prefer to make all the settings yourself? An individual template can be created with just a few clicks. Just follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the brief instructions .

1st step:

In the " Styles " window, click one of the five types of templates . Depending on what you want to create for a template, choose the right one here. In the table above we explain which types are used for what. Here we select " Paragraph styles " in the example . Then right click on one of the templates. It doesn't matter which one. Then select " New ... ".

A new window opens in which you can first determine the name of the template. We call our template " test template " in the example . The follow-up template is set automatically. In the case of a link, select " - None - " and, for example, " User templates" as the area .

Now you can click on the various tabs and design the template according to your wishes. In " writing " and " Text Effects " You can, for example, the font and the color change of the font. Finally click on " OK ".

Here is an example of what your own style can look like. We changed the font , size and color . Select the text that you want to apply the style to. Then double-click on the template in the list on the left and the new formatting will be applied.
