Restore the Windows Recycle Bin using the C: drive

If your recycle bin has not reappeared, you can try to get it back using the C: drive:

  1. First open Windows Explorer by clicking the yellow folder icon in the lower left corner of the taskbar.
  2. In Explorer click on " View " in the menu bar at the top left , and in the functions you will then see, click on the window symbol above "Options" on the far right .
  3. In the options, first click on the " View " tab at the top . You will then see a long list with a ton of options. Uncheck "Hide protected system files" and put a dot in front of "Show hidden files, folders and drives" . Then click " OK " to close the window.
  4. In Windows Explorer, you now call your C: drive on. To do this, first click on " This PC " in the left-hand area . On the right you will see a list with some folders and drives - double-click on the entry with a "(C :)" in the name . It is usually the first entry under " Devices and Drives ".
  5. When you get to drive C: double-click the pale yellow folder named " $ Recycle.Bin ".
  6. In this folder you will find an entry with the name " Trash ". Click on it with the right mouse button. In the menu that opens, click on " Send to " and in the submenu on " Desktop (create shortcut) ". You now have a new shortcut to the trash on the desktop.
  7. So that it looks clear in Windows Explorer in the future, you should open the folder options again, as described above. This time activate the check mark in front of " Hide protected system files " again and put a point in front of " Do not show hidden files, folders or drives ".

Attention: The new icon on the desktop does not change when you fill or empty the trash. If you prefer a full trash can as an icon, right-click the trash and click on " Properties " in the menu . Then click on " Change Icon ... " and select the full trash from the icons that you will then see. Click OK, then click OK again..
